Mission Statement

The mission of the Life Adjustment Center (LAC) is to optimize the quality of life for the developmentally disabled children and adult population and their families by providing quality, state-of-the-art health care services.  In a changing and challenging environment, we develop and adopt innovative methodologies in the health care delivery system that will optimize the health and well-being for all in need with care that is accessible, efficient, and effective.  Our case management and counseling approach is to restore dignity, hope, and self-reliance by focusing on each individual on a one-on-one basis.

The Life Adjustment Center (LAC) started its services in 1992 and began to address the acute need of quality services and programs for an increasing Developmentally Disabled population.

LAC serves all ages and levels of MR/DD through its Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs), Day Habilitation Centers, Medicaid Service Coordination program and Community Habilitation program.

Accomplishments

LAC enjoys a very low administrative overhead rate.  This is due to efficient cost controls and a lean administrative staff.  That is why only 14 cents of each dollar goes to administration and 86 cents of each dollar goes to direct services.  LAC has been at the forefront in many of its operations, including being the first to open an IRA (Individual Residential Alternative) in the Bronx.  We have recently opened a special day habilitation program in Manhattan for consumers who are very medically involved and require extra care.  LAC gladly accepts new challenges to improve the lives of those who have encountered adversity.

The commitment of LAC to its "Special Population" is manifested in its abilities to respond to the changing needs of persons who are developmentally disabled and by offering its clients an extensive array of services and technologies.
